The Nationals have acquired 24-year old lefty reliever Victor Garate from the Dodgers to complete the Ronnie Belliard trade. Garate was the Dodgers’ #24 ranked prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Garate has pitched in 46 games (0 starts) in AA-ball this season and he is 0-1 with 5 saves, a 2.08 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. He has only allowed 36 hits while whiffing 56 batters in only 52 innings this season showing what kind of stuff he has. The Nationals shouldn’t hesitate in bringing him up and using him right now as a situational lefty. I really like this trade now for the Nationals.
