The Nationals have re-signed 32-year old lefty swinging outfielder Rick Ankiel to a minor league deal. Ankiel played in 122 games for the Nationals last year and he was 91 for 380 (.239 avg, .659 OPS) with 46 runs scored, 9 homers, 37 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. He has now played in 540 games in his first 9 years in the majors and he is 402 for 1,635 (.246 avg, .732 OPS) with 232 runs scored, 64 homers, 218 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. It’s looking more and more like the Nationals aren’t going to make a big splash in dealing for a impact CF. As of right now, Ankiel would probably platoon with either Roger Bernadina or Mike Cameron in CF for the Nationals in 2012.
