The Nationals have placed 26-year old righty reliever Cole Kimball on the 60-day disabled list due to a right shoulder injury. Kimball pitched in 12 games (0 starts) for the Nationals last year and he was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. He also pitched in 12 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball last year and he was 1-0 with 5 saves, a 0.00 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. He won’t likely be back until the All-Star break.

The Washington Nationals place 1B/OF Chris Marrero on the D.L.

The Nationals have placed 23-year old righty swinging 1B/OF Chris Marrero on the 60-day disabled list due to a torn left hamstring. He played in 31 games for the Nationals last year and he was 27 of 109 (.248 avg, .567 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 0 homers and 10 RBIs. Marrero also played in 127 games in AAA-ball last year and he was 145 of 483 (.300 avg, .825 OPS) with 59 runs scored, 14 homers, 69 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Marrero will likely be out until July.

The Washington Nationals place Chien-Ming Wang on the D.L.

The Nationals have placed 32-year old righty starting pitcher Chien-Ming Wang on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 26th due to a strained left hamstring. Wang pitched in 11 games (all starts) for the Nationals last year and he was 4-3 with a 4.04 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He has now pitched in 120 games (115 starts) in his first six years in the majors and he is 59-29 with 1 save, a 4.15 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. The Nationals hope Wang will be ready to return at some point in late April.

The Washington Nationals place Drew Storen on the D.L.

The Nationals have placed 24-year old righty closer Drew Storen on the 15-day disabled list due to a sore right elbow. Storen pitched in 73 games (0 starts) for the Nationals last year and he was 6-3 with 43 saves, a 2.75 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP. He has now pitched in 127 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the Nationals and he is 10-7 with 48 saves, a 3.10 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Brad Lidge or Henry Rodriguez will handle the 9th inning until Storen is ready to return to action.

UPDATE: (4/11/2012) - Drew Storen had minor elbow surgery today and the Nationals don’t expect him back until shortly before the All-Star Break.

The Washington Nationals place Mike Morse on the D.L.

The Nationals have placed 30-year old righty swinging 1B/OF Mike Morse on the 15-day disabled list due to a lat injury. He played in 146 games for the Nationals last year and he was 158 of 522 (.303 avg, .910 OPS) with 73 runs scored, 31 homers, 95 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Morse has now played in 276 games in his first three years with the Nationals and he is 248 of 840 (.295 avg, .889 OPS) with 113 runs scored, 49 homers, 146 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Nationals hope that Morse can return to action because it’s impossible to replace his bat.

UPDATE: (4/4/2012) - Mike Morse has been placed on the D.L. retroactive to March 26th.

UPDATE: (4/12/2012) - Mike Morse aggravated his lat strain on his rehab assignment and he will likely miss another six weeks. This is a big blow to the Nationals as they are going to miss his bat.
